Semi dwarf (S/D) trees may be held to desired size by summer pruning and regular winter pruning. Average height without summer pruning is 14 feet.
Babcock
Semi-Dwarf trees that are self– fertile, requiring 250 Chill hours. Ripens in mid July. White flesh, freestone & a long time favorite. Sweet, juicy, low acid & very aromatic. Scores high in taste test.
Bonanza Miniature
A GREAT yellow freestone. Low acid, w/ a sweet refreshing flavor. Bears in late June. Self-fertile requiring 200 chill hours. This tree is very easy to maintain at 5-6 feet in height.
Bonita
Trees are Semi-Dwarf, no pollinizer is required, but needs 400 Chill hours. Ripens late July . Medium to large yellow freestone. Sweet, sub-acid & very flavorful. Proven variety in So. Calif. for the coast & inland area.
Donut (Stark Saturn)
Semi-Dwarf tree, that is self-fertile, requiring 440+ hours of chilling. Bears in late June thru early July. Unique white-fleshed fruit with a sunken center shaped like a donut! Freestone. Sweet with a mild flavor described by some as almond like. Bacterial spot resistant. Something a little different for the Gourmet!
Eva’s Pride
Semi-Dwarf, needs no pollinizer & between 100-200 hours of chilling. Delicious, fine flavored peach with very low chilling requirements. Medium to large sized yellow freestone. Early season in mild climates.
May Pride
Semi-Dwarf, very early-ripening for mild winter climate. Ripens in May. Semi-freestone when soft-ripe. Delicious, sweet & tangy. Large, very showy pink blossoms. 175 chill hrs.
Mid-Pride
Semi-Dwarf trees need only 250 chill hours & are self-fruitful. Best yellow freestone for warm winter climates of So. Calif. Exceptional flavor and dessert quality.
Red Baron
Tree size is Semi-Dwarf, needing only 250-300 hours of chilling. No pollinizer required. Bears in mid-July. Flowering/fruiting. Showy double red blossoms. Large, juicy, firm, richly flavored yellow freestone fruit. Long time favorite in So. Calif. Use in the landscape for spectacular color.
Peach Küchen
With pastry blender combine:
1 cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp salt
1 Tbsp butter
1 Tbsp shortening
Break 1 egg into a 1 cup measure and fill to 3/8 cup with milk (that’s halfway
between ¼ and ½ cup).
Beat up and add to flour. Dough should easily separate
from side of the bowl. If not, add a little more flour. Press dough into lightly
greased 13 X 9 pan. This will be a thin layer. Fill pan with peeled, sliced,
fresh peaches by lining up in rows and overlapping slightly. 6 to 8 good sized
peaches should fill it up. Sprinkle some sugar and cinnamon over the fruit.
Choose a topping:
Streusel:
½ cup flour
3 Tbsp butter
½ cup sugar
½ tsp cinnamon
Crumbles:
¾ cup oats
¾ cup brown sugar
¾ cup flour
6 Tbsp butter or margarine
¼ tsp baking powder
¼ tsp baking soda
Dash of salt and cinnamon to taste.
Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.
