Cara Cara, Navel Orange
The tree is Standard size, to 18 feet, smaller in containers. A true Navel variety, discovered in Venezuela. Fruit is large-sized, with a deep orange rind and reddish-pink interior. The flavor is much like the Washington Navel and holds well on the tree. Gaining popularity. Bearing Nov. to Mar. Seedless
‘Lane Late’ Navel Orange
This species is excellent for warm winter areas. The tree can be used in large containers and can grow to 8’ in width. Tops when used as an evergreen shrub or in containers. Peels easily and high in flavor and juice content. Ripens later than Washington Navel. Standard sized tree to 18’. Bears Feb. to June. Seedless.
Washington Navel Orange
Principle navel variety. The tree is round in shape, dense foliage and as with all citrus, it is evergreen and thrives in the full sun. The fruit is large in size, big on flavor, and easy to peel. Fruit holds well on the tree and has a deep orange color. Fragrant flowers in the spring and adapts well to most areas except the desert and along the coast. Semi-dwarf tree grows 10-12 feet. Produces Dec. to May. Seedless.
Moro, Blood Orange
A medium sized tree with a classic round shape and produces the fruit to the outside of the tree, in clusters. Evergreen. Does well from the desert to the sea! Note: The more heat, the deeper the color of the fruit. Medium sized fruit with a reddish-orange rind. The flesh is deep red with a hint of raspberry to the flavor. Pleasant flavor with a distinctive aroma. Semi-dwarf trees grow to 8’. Produces Jan. to May. A few seeds.
Valencia
Referred to as ‘The Summer Orange’ or ‘Juice Orange’. Holds very well on the tree. Thin skin, medium sized fruit. A bountiful addition to your landscape. Produces very well in large containers. Slice one up and enjoy in your lunch. Semi-dwarf to 10-12’. Bears June to Dec. Some seeds.
Valencia Midnight
Improved flavor and higher juice content PLUS the early maturing distinguishes this selection over the standard Valencia. Maturing 2-4 weeks sooner and with an extended harvest period, AND being nearly seedless, makes Midnight a favorite choice. Available as a Standard size tree (18’). Bears June to Dec. Some seeds.
Tangelos
Minneola
A unique blend of flavor and aroma. Cross between Tangerine and Grapefruit. Thick skinned, producing an orange-red fruit with a rich tangerine flavor and the classic pear-shaped neck. The fruit is produced on the outside of the tree, giving it a high landscape value. Excellent in containers and can be grown indoors. Distinctive, tart flavor. Semi-dwarf tree = 8-10’.Produces Feb. to May. Few seeds.
Sparkling Orangeade
2 cups fresh orange juice
½ cup fresh lime juice
2/3 cup sugar
1 liter sparkling water
In a large pitcher (at least 2 qt.), stir orange juice, lime juice, and sugar until sugar is dissolved Add 2 cups ice cubes and the sparkling water and stir to blend.
Pour into tall glasses, adding orange slices if desired.
